We are glad your thinking about checking out Fort City Church and we get it... visiting a church for the first time can be pretty intimidating. Truth is we are just normal people, who are trying to figure out what it means to live and look like Jesus. A typical Sunday service looks like 4 or 5 fresh and exciting worship songs, mixed in with a challenging message, maybe communion or an inspiring short video, and at least a few spilled coffees.
Find parking and make your way inside. Grab a coffee, meet new people, and pick a seat for worship.
Sing a few songs, with a full, rocking band. Listen and be challenged through preaching.
After the service you will have the opportunity to meet a few people and get involved in one of our life groups. Then come back and do it all again the following week.
The staff team at Fort City is made up of a diverse mix of guys and girls who are passionate about making church and the Gospel accessible for all people. Each staff member arrived at Fort City by following their own uniquely personal paths, but all are united in the goal of growing this church into people who look and love like Jesus. The team is mostly made up of relaxed fit with a skinny or two mixed in for good measure.
Doug comes to Fort City Church with a passion to see people connect deeply with the life transforming love of God. Serving as Lead pastor, he works to bring relevant messages with impact wherever you’re at in your spiritual journey. He loves leading and collaborating with a diverse and growing staff team who will not be confined by the status quo but are risk takers trusting God for an even better city.
Married for more than a few years to his wife Jane, they have three adult children and one son-in-law living across the country and around the world. Doug loves getting into the Alberta outdoors hunting or fishing and has an unrivalled collection of plaid shirts.
Matt leads our children and family ministries and brings the high-energy passion that only a dad of three daughters can. Each Sunday he heads a team of volunteers that leads our kids in worship and teaching at their own service called Kid City. Everybody’s talking ‘bout his tight pants.
Lucas is Fort City’s worship and creative guy. Each week he works with some of Fort McMurray’s most talented musicians to use music and singing to create an exciting and passionate atmosphere of worship. Lucas balances working part time at the church with working full time rescuing kittens from tall trees as a local Firefighter/EMT.
Adrien brings a level of creativity to the team that makes her perfect in the role of communications. Her graphic designs and social media campaigns help broaden the church’s impact. That might just be a fancy way of saying she is addicted to YouTube videos of cats.
Matt leads Fort City’s Youth program bringing with him the travelled experience that comes with serving in countries like Malaysia, Niger, Sierra Leone, and Mali for “Youth With A Mission” over the past 12 years. Matt and his wife Steph split their time mentoring the Fort City Youth, with running the Fort McMurray YWAM base. Matt's claim to fame is starting the Macklemore haircut craze.
Phil has a desire for men and women to grow in their understanding and practice of what it means to follow Christ. He splits his time between working part time for the church and full-time at Diversified Transportation. Phil is married to Linda with five adult children. He has been around awhile and could probably give you a first hand account of when Moses parted the Red Sea.
Brenda might just be the most important person at Fort City. She's a details kind of person whose amazing work makes it so that everyone else in the office is able to do their job better. Whatever you do though, don't be late submitting your expense reports. She's been known to resort to mafia style tactics to get them.
We might just have more kids than adults here at Fort City and we want to provide all of them with the building blocks for a strong faith. The kids join the adults for the start of the main service, before being shortly dismissed to their own church service upstairs called Kid City.
Sign in your children at the Kid City check-in desk located in the foyer. You will be given a personal barcode and nametag for your child to wear that morning
After Kid City is dismissed from the auditorium, ages 2 to Grade 4 begin Kid City with a few high-energy worship songs. After worship, ages 2 & 3 go next door to their classroom with their awesome Kid City team members. Ages 4 to Grade 4 stay in the big room for an interactive learning time that is appropriate to their age levels.
After the service pick-up your children ages 10 and under using your personal barcode.
Currently our kids in Kid City are sponsoring two children from Compassion International. Offering taken each week in Kid City goes to these sponsorships.
